An American modernist sculptor, Asawa has associated her name with wire sculptures, light woven structures, often hanging from the ceiling, that seem to float in space, creating a form that is ‘inside and outside’ at the same time. A passionate advocate of art education as a transformative and fortifying experience, she has actively promoted art programs for children and has linked her name to the city of San Francisco, which is home to many of her works, especially fountains.
