Art that can be described as merciless, grotesque, and disquieting. Crowded creations of contrasting emotions. Born in Chile in 1967, Pinochet’s ‘terror reign’ had a deep impact on Sandra Vásquez de la Horra’s art. Her cultural heritage includes stories of the native people of Latin America, the history of Spanish colonialism, and the story of her own family. The artist looks for, and finds, freedom from this kind of society by means of her art, whose main themes are death, family, relationships, and sexuality.
