PEOPLE Serge Attukwei Clottey (b. Accra, Ghana, 1985)

Serge Attukwei Clottey is a Ghanaian artist who works with found items and discarded material he collects around his hometown of Accra. For example, the “Kufuor gallons” – large yellow tanks used to store water locally, which in turn earned their name from former president John Kufuor. The tanks are cut, sewn, melted, pierced, recycled and joined to other items (often thanks to a community effort) and play an essential role in the production of his pieces, which today are exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, Accra, Berlin, Dakar. Clottey participates in the 18. Architecture Biennale with an outdoor installation at the Gaggiandre, Arsenal.
