LA FENICE NELLA CHIESA DI SAN FANTIN

14 April 2023

-

7 May 2023

The enthusiasm that the public is demonstrating for this unprecedented series of six concerts of sacred music, created by the Venetian Theater in collaboration with the Patriarchate of Venice and the Municipality of Venice, which will take place inside the recently restored building of worship is very high from Friday 14 April to Sunday 7 May. At the center of the programming, the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and Antonio Vivaldi. It will be interpreted by the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro La Fenice conducted by Federico Guglielmo – also engaged in the role of solo violinist – with the voices of soprano Marianna Mappa, contralto Valeria Girardello, tenor Valentino Buzza and bass Alessandro Ravasio. Choir Master Alfonso Caiani. The review of concerts promoted by the Fenice at San Fantin is an absolutely new initiative, in fact the Church had never been used by the Fenice as a concert venue: the musical events will be a prelude to the return of worship inside the consecrated building, who will soon resume his ecclesiastical activity. In anticipation of this important moment, the church will be open to the faithful for prayers and for short visits as early as the next weekend, starting on Friday 12 May. The musical program of the Fenice in the Church of San Fantin offers in all six appointments the performance of Antonio Vivaldi’s Magnificat for soloists, choir and orchestra rv 610, which will be combined in the first concerts with the cantata “Am Abend aber desselbigen Sabbats” for solos, choir and orchestra bwv 42 by Johann Sebastian Bach, a page that the Kantor of Leipzig specially composed for that date of the liturgical calendar – the Sunday following Easter – in which it will be performed (Friday 14, Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 April, h 17). Vivaldi’s sacred masterpiece will then be joined, in the following concerts, by other sacred compositions by the Venetian musician such as the Concerto in D major for violin and orchestra «for the Solemnity of the S. Lingua di S. Antonio in Padua 1712» rv 212 and the motet «Nulla in mundo pax sincera» for soprano, strings and continuo rv 630 (Friday 21, Saturday 22 April and Sunday 7 May, 5 pm). The second series of concerts – all at 5 pm – is also free to enter and the admission tickets (single unnumbered seat, maximum two per person) can be collected at the Teatro La Fenice ticket office starting from Monday 17 April h. 10, subject to availability of seats.
