We treasure the Venice Film Festival as something special since before it even begins, because this year’s edition coincides with the tenth year of the Sardegna Film Commission. Our first ten years of business have been a composite of talent, poetry, filmmaking, and experimenting all Made in Sardinia. We made fruitful alliances with radical innovators dedicated to creating stories for the big screen and for TV as a group of people animated by the spirit of public service. We hold dear to our sense for civic duty, communal commitment, and extraordinary elevation of the abilities of out communities, which made it possible to create a strong, solid ecosystem for the audio/video industry. We had it easy if it is true what Fabrizio De André famously said: “Life in Sardinia is the best man can wish: 24,000 kilometres of forest, countryside, coasts immersed in miraculously beautiful sea. I would suggest our heavenly Father to make paradise look just like this.” We would love to share a piece of our paradise with everyone else here on Lido, day after day. We’ll start with our attention for Mother Earth, green-obsessed as we are inside and outside the world of filmmaking. Our conferences on environmental sustainability and green protocols will be enriched by the announcement of the winners of the first SCREEN IN GREEN programme, developed with the Italian Government, Premio Solinas, and Ocen Space. Sardinia is a land of matriarchy, which means we must tell all about our inclusivity policies and the educational opportunities for young women together with our historical partners like WIF and EFA. In all the relational work we do, animation, illustration, graphic design, VFX artists, and many talents of the creative industries tell the story of our future with the goal of rewriting the rules of filmmaking in the NAS LAB, an experimental public workshop at the heart of the island of Sardinia. There will be so much more, and we’ll tell more each day on these pages and in our daily appointments at Venice Days and Isola Edipo. We want to bring Sardinia to the world and the world to Sardinia.
