The organizational machinery of the Edipo Re Inclusion and Sustainability Award, an official collateral award of the Venice International Film Festival, is revving up (or it would be better to say, accelerating…) on the occasion of the Festival’s 80th edition. This award is promoted by Edipo Re Impresa Sociale, led by Sibylle Righetti and Enrico Vianello, under the artistic direction of Silvia Jop. It is done in collaboration with the Giornate degli Autori, MYmovies, and with the patronage of Ca’ Foscari and ResInt. This marks the sixth edition of the award, featuring a high-quality jury comprising actors Caterina Guzzanti and Alberto Malanchino, along with the writer Carlotta Vagnoli, all ready to immerse themselves in the selection of films curated by Silva Job from the Competition, Orizzonti, Critics’ Week, and Giornate degli Autori sections. The award will be presented to the work that demonstrates a perspective capable of promoting inclusive and sustainable practices. The organization will support the winning film by activating a special distribution network in Italy. A new addition this year is the Youth Jury, consisting of students from Ca’ Foscari University, which will work alongside the jurors, strengthening the relationship between cinema and academia.
Alongside the award, for the seventh year, “Cinema of Inclusion Between Vision and Education” returns, promoted by Isola Edipo in collaboration with the Giornate degli Autori and the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain. “Gli occhi della foresta” offers a direct look at the most renowned indigenous populations of the Amazon and their centrality in the international cinematic landscape. It’s a political act that returns to the forest its eyes, its bodies, and its voices, placing the Yanomami environmental and cultural issue at the center of reflection regarding the protection of the Earth’s green lung. A day dedicated to one of the most important Yanomami cinema directors, Morzaniel Ɨramari, featuring a focus on indigenous film production in Brazil, is scheduled for September 4th at the Sala Laguna.
The social enterprise Edipo Re, the cornerstone of all initiatives, has its roots in the historic sailing boat that once hosted Pier Paolo Pasolini and Maria Callas. Today, it has been transformed into a true innovation lab that promotes artistic and cultural activities based on sustainable tourism, gastronomy, and the revitalization of local economies in the Venice Lagoon.
From August 30th to September 9th, the Edipo Re boat, in its festival mooring along the Riva Corinto, along with the Sala Laguna, serves as the focal point for “Radici” (Roots), a program where cinema, literature, music, social initiatives, and food & drink blend together in a series of events, presentations, tastings, live shows, and screenings. This non-stop lineup represents the offbeat and socially conscious side of the Venice Film Festival since 2017.
