Ali Doğan Gönültaş sings and plays the tembur and acoustic guitar. He is also an extremely gifted arranger, artistic producer and composer. He was born in Kiğı, eastern Anatolia, into a family for whom, like most Alevi, music is an essential way of conveying the history of his people. The emotion of his expressive voice, the dreamy melodies of his compositions and his deep background shine through in the magnificent debut album ‘Kiğı’, for which he spent over ten years conducting field research. This self-produced album opened the doors to European stages for him. Prior to this courageous work, ‘Kiğı’, in which he defends the languages and culture of silenced minorities in Turkey, such as the Kurds and Armenians, Ali Doğan collaborated for ten years with the interesting band Ze Tîje, worked in archaeology in Anatolia, composed music for films and, to this day, continues to work in television.
