The trauma of war is at the heart of Giacomo Abbruzzese’s film, presented in competition at the Berlin Film Festival 2023. The film will still be screened on Wednesday 22 March with three performances. Disco Boy is a crossroads of destinies filled with trauma, war and the struggle to save his community. After a long and difficult journey through Europe, Aleksei from Belarus arrives in Paris to enlist in the Foreign Legion. In search of a new life, he is ready to do anything to get the passport that was promised to him. On the Niger River Delta, Jomo battles multinational oil companies that threaten life in his village. At the head of an armed group, one day he kidnaps French citizens. To intervene is a commando of the Foreign Legion, led by Aleksei. The meeting between the two will have unexpected implications. The fates of Aleksei and Jomo will eventually overlap, continuing beyond borders, bodies, life and death. Giacomo Abbruzzese is a director, screenwriter and photographer; he has made numerous short films and documentaries awarded in various festivals. Disco Boy is his first feature film and during this screening the director will be present in the room to converse with the spectators.
