Yvette J. Jackson, an electro- acoustic music composer, is a peak exponent of African diaspora experimentalism. An experienced theatre sound designer, Jackson uses different techniques to create narrational sound landscapes, radio opera pieces, and improvisation pieces. For over fifteen years, she has been working in theatre, cinema, television, installation, and videogames – from radio dramas to documentaries, to circus, her music and sound designs have been able to evoke and accompany emotions and narrations.
In 2020, the Radio Opera Workshop was born, a scalable ensemble founded to perform Jackson’s radio dramas. They debuted at Harvard’s Fromm Players Concerts, where Jackson also teaches. Her radio dramas are about current social and cultural themes, inspired by racial struggle in America, and echo relevant pieces of news.
