The Domo Duo (Domonkos Hartmann on cello and Domonkos Csabay on piano) stars in a concert with music by Fauré, Ducasse, Boulanger and Koechlin. With his Élégie, published in 1883, Gabriel Fauré offered cellists a fundamental piece of their repertoire, the immediate success of which has never waned. It is therefore interesting to explore the treatment of this instrument in other works by the composer and in the scores of his students. As a counterpoint to one of the master’s cello sonatas, the Duo Duomo presents pieces that, like the Élégie, break free from the constraints of classical forms to enter the realm of genre pieces, sometimes drawing on the imagery of salons (Roger-Ducasse’s Romance), sometimes on popular music (Koechlin’s Chansons bretonnes). Finally, Nadia Boulanger popularised on the cello pieces originally written for organ.
