The first edition of Venice Climate Week, conceived and directed by Riccardo Luna in collaboration with the Future Food Institute, is being held in Venice. An international week dedicated to climate change, sustainability and new models of regenerative economy to revive dialogue and confrontation between institutions, citizens, businesses, activists, scientists and artists. In the symbolic heart of Venice, local and international authorities will join prominent scientists. The highlight will be the opening ceremony on 3 June at the Procuratie: a visionary Lectio Magistralis by economist Jeremy Rifkin, who will unveil “Planet Aqua” and the central role of water as the most precious common good. Jeremy Rifkin is collaborating with the European Commission, the European Parliament, industry and civil society to integrate a Blue Deal to the existing Green Deal, positioning Europe as a first mover in the transition from the Age of Progress to the Age of Resilience in the era of Planet Aqua. Venice Climate Week is conceived and curated by Riccardo Luna, an Italian journalist and innovator who has been involved in sustainability issues for years. He was the first director of Wired Italia and served as Digital Champion for Italy. In 2024, he carried out the only Italian interview with Al Gore, published in Repubblica, and was later received by the Pope together with Al Gore. He also curated two photographic exhibitions on climate change at the Gallerie d’Italia in 2023 and 2024. He also promoted a climate petition in 2023 that collected 200,000 signatures, which were delivered to the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella. Venice Climate Week collaborates with a number of institutions including UNESCO-COI, NATIVA, the VSF Foundation (Venice World Sustainability Capital Foundation), the CMCC Foundation (Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change), SEA BEYOND, The Human Safety Net Venice Foundation, Ocean Space, the International Centre for Climate Change Studies, Ca Foscari, IUAV and Venice International Universities, the Veneto Region and the City of Venice; and with leading environmental and sustainability organisations such as Marevivo, WWF, Legambiente and ASViS.
