A magnificent showcase of cinema, passion, and great talent dedicated to the most internationally renowned Italian actor: Marcello, come here… is the tribute that the National Film School Foundation – Experimental Center of Cinematography, led by President Sergio Castellitto, dedicates to Marcello Mastroianni on the centenary of his birth (September 28, 1924), on the occasion of the 81st Venice International Film Festival. Curated by Laura Delli Colli, the exhibition was inaugurated on August 30 on the island of San Servolo, where the new CSC Immersive Arts headquarters—the first center dedicated to immersive and performing arts in Italy—is under construction. The exhibit is crafted from valuable archival materials provided by the National Film Archive, led by Conservator Steve Della Casa, offering the public a magnificent journey into Mastroianni’s world. Not only does it feature iconic stills from his films, but it also captures his gaze and daily life through the lens of numerous set photographers in around 150 images, some of which have never been seen before, along with a collection of film clips where Marcello Mastroianni can be heard speaking about himself, Fellini, his relationship with cinema and his directors, as well as his passions, women, and the ‘Latin lover’ image he could never quite shake off. Through an original “diffuse” exhibit on the island, a remarkable Venetian tribute unfolds, which, as Laura Delli Colli, President of the Film Journalists, explains, becomes “an opportunity to dive into the life and cinema of a protagonist who, through his characters, combined the charm of a graceful nonchalance with a special connection, both in life and on stage, with women, yes, but above all with his audience.”
