The first exhibition at Capsule Venice, the new Venetian venue of the Chinese gallery Capsule Shanghai founded by Enrico Polato, titled When We Become Us², is curated by Manuela Lietti and presents itself as an enhanced version of the inaugural exhibition held at the Shanghai gallery in 2016, crossing different semantic layers. On the one hand, it offers a glimpse into the poetics that define the work of the 29 participating artists, providing an overview of the gallery’s program (along with some new collaborations) and unexplored synergies between artists who have never exhibited together before. On the other hand, the exhibition is a heartfelt expression of the methodology embraced by the gallery during its seven years of activity. When We Become Us² is a reflection on what it means to manage a space that, while functioning as a commercial entity, is constantly engaged in a process of mutual nourishment, growth, and continuous dialogue with the artists who bring the gallery to life.
