Building with lava? For Arnhildur Pálmadóttir (s.ap architects), it’s a real possibility. The Icelandic Pavilion explores the country’s unique geological conditions – marked by frequent volcanic eruptions and vast lava fields – to investigate how these destructive events could become a renewable resource for the construction industry. Lavaforming envisions an Iceland in the year 2150, where a primordial and disruptive force is transformed into an opportunity for sustainable architecture, free from harmful extractive practices and powered directly by the forces of nature.
