UK, 1988. Margaret Thatcher’s government, first woman prime minister and with the longest-serving position among her 20th century,’s homologues, passed a law that would recognise lesbians and gays as paedophiles. The law, known as Section 28, prevented teachers and local authorities from acknowledging the existence of homosexuality. Jean is a PE teacher and has to live a double life with her girlfriend Viv, often spending they’re weekend in the Newcastle’s dangerous gay scene.
Director and screenwriter born in 1988, she took part in Berlinale Talents 2018. Her shorts were screened in many international festivals such as SXSW, Tribeca, New York Film Festival and Galway Film Fleadh. In her debut film Blue Jean, with The Alienist’s Rosy McEwen as Jean, the protagonist, she creates a visual language inspired by the classics of the 80s.
