Today, Buchla’s technical legacy lives in many virtual synthesizers, and its practical application has been revitalized by contemporary musicians. One of them is the Solar Pulsers collective. Solar Pulsers re-focused on Buchla’s instrument with a blend of modular synthesis, improvisation, and visual arts. The group comprises composer and sound artist Sara Berts, musical experimenter Paolo Dellapiana, and trumpeter-producer Giorgio Li Calzi. The three explore evolving soundscapes through controlled improvisations and complex sound textures that challenge traditional conventions. Their upcoming concert on March 15 at the Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi is part of Nu Fest, an electronic and contemporary music festival organized by Veneto Jazz. Founded in 2007 by Marcello Mormile, the festival honours his spirit after his sad passing in October 2020. Solar Pulsers will perform alongside visual artist Giampo Coppa, known for his psychedelic shows creating an immersive experience where sound, colour, and images transport the audience into a hypnotic realm of experimentation.
