On January 24 and 26 at Teatro Malibran, Alpesh Chauhan conducts La Fenice Orchestra on works by Mendelssohn, Milhaud, Farrenc e Schumann. The program weaves together romantic atmospheres and modern inspirations. It opens with Mendelssohn’s Meeresstille und glückliche Fahrt, a musical interpretation of the sea’s stillness and motion, followed by the lively rhythms of Milhaud’s Le boeuf sur le toit, inspired by Brazilian sounds. The evening then features Overture No. 2 by Louise Farrenc, a still-underappreciated figure of the 19th-century music scene, before concluding with Schumann’s Rhenish Symphony, which celebrates the evocative power of the Rhine through melodic vitality and emotional depth.
Alpesh Chauhan is one of the most highly regarded British conductors on the international scene. He was appointed director of the Filarmonica Toscanini in Parma in 2015 at just 27 years old and is currently the Music Director of the Birmingham Opera Company.
