Music played live, images, rare documents and words punctuate The meaning of the blues, a conference-concert in which a musicologist (Luca Bragalini) and one of the highest figures in the history of European jazz (Franco D’Andrea) reveal how much they can be infinite shades of blues. Between Mississippi and Central Europe, between the production of D’Andrea and that of Gershwin, between classical music and Afro-American folklore, between the television theme songs and the pages of Thelonious Monk is the appointment scheduled at the Fenice on 15 April. Franco D’Andrea, beyond any rhetoric, needs no introduction. His artistic history is so rich, intense, coherent, that to enumerate all his collaborations, meetings, significant works would be meaningless, if not in an enlarged publication, which seriously and precisely examined this formidable career in its totality.
