The magical story of the most famous living puppet of all time becomes an opera in music: Pinocchio, a musical fairytale by Vicenza composer Pierangelo Valtinoni to a libretto by Paolo Madron freely inspired by the Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi, will be staged at the Teatro Malibran from 18 to 24 January 2024 as part of the Opera and Ballet Season 2023-2024 and in the context of the Opera Giovani programme dedicated to school and family audiences. The performance, suitable for audiences of all ages, is a revival of the staging signed in 2019 by director Gianmaria Aliverta, with sets by Alessia Colosso, costumes by Sara Marcucci, light design by Elisabetta Campanelli and choreographic movements by Silvia Giordano. The musical part will be entrusted to Marco Paladin, who will conduct the Teatro La Fenice Orchestra and the Piccoli Cantori Veneziani children’s choir, prepared by Diana D’Alessio. There will be four performances this month, on Thursday 18, Friday 19 and Wednesday 24 January 2024 at 11 a.m. (reserved for schools), while the performance on Saturday 20 January is open to the public. Pinocchio by Valtinoni and Madron was born in 2001, as a one-act play for the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza; but it was in 2006, at the Komische Oper in Berlin, that it really took shape, ‘sculpted’ in the two acts in which the libretto succeeds in condensing without sacrifice the adventures of the puppet who wants to become a child with a pressing and enthralling dramaturgical rhythm.
