From May 31 to June 15, Venice will once again be the international stage for contemporary theatre with the 53rd edition of the Biennale Teatro, under the prestigious direction of Willem Dafoe. The world-renowned actor and director, celebrated for his intense career spanning both cinema and theater, has been appointed by La Biennale for the 2025/26 biennium, will bring his unique vision and innovative approach to the theatre scene in Venice. Guest artists from all six continents will explore universal themes and avant-garde stage languages, offering the audience an immersive experience into the new frontiers of creativity. The rich program of performances and events, featuring some of the most influential figures in contemporary theatre, will be complemented by productions from Biennale College Teatro, the training project that fosters emerging talent in the theatrical arts. Young artists, selected through a rigorous process, will present their original creations alongside those of established masters, fostering a generational dialogue that enriches the festival experience. The program will also include talks, workshops, and open sessions for the public and industry professionals.
