Beyond the borders with Veneto Jazz
di Redazione VeNews

Modern ethnic music sounds off in Venice thanks to Etnoborder festival. Until May 21, the Veneto Jazz-authored programme will explore the music traditions of the world travelling to Brazil, to the Balkans, to the Middle East, and beyond.

On April 22, Choro De Rua duo (Barbara Piperno and Marco Ruviaro) will play at Laguna Libre. Choro is classy Brazilian instrumental music. On Saturday, May 14, Rachele Andrioli will take us to her native Salento, the south-eastern tip of Italy. Her solo show Leuca (after the name of the maritime region) combines Andrioli’s unique voice with uncommon instruments and modern technology.

On May 20, again at Laguna Libre, Brazilian singer, author, and composer Nilza Costa will make turn African ancestral rhythms and traditional Brazilian music into an original, improvised artistic language. Costa will present her new album, Le Notti Di San Patrizio. Distorçao Do Tempo, containing eight new pieces. On May 21, Gafarov Ensemble will perform at Palazzo Grimani with a programme of music from Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan, the Balkans, and from Romani culture.
